MY PLEDGES TO YOU
FIGHT FOR OUR NHS
After 14 years under the Tories, our NHS locally has been left struggling. I'm working with Southend Hospital, the ICB, the Department for Health & Social Care, and patients to get it back on its feet!
With more investment and modernisation including driving down waiting times, there is a real ambition and drive to get the Health Service back to what patients deserve. I won't stop fighting until we get what we need to make that a reality for everyone.

BRING BACK THE FAMILY DOCTOR
So many of us remember having a family doctor - Labour is commited to bringing them back.
With crucial investment unlocked in four local GP surgeries already, more than 1,500 new GPs recruited nationally, and a renewed focus on improved and sustained services, this work is underway!
TACKLE CRIME AND ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR
Cuts to Policing numbers during the previous Conservative Government were felt across our community. I'm working to reverse and re-invest in our Police.
From stopping the Tory Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner from cutting PCSOs, putting more Neighbourhood Police on our streets, to working with the District Commander to drive down Anti-Social Behaviour, I have seen first-hand the vital work Essex Police do in Southend. There's more work to do and I'm committed to seeing it through.

THE RIGHT HOMES FOR OUR COMMUNITY
We are stuck in a housing crisis where young people and families are locked out of their futures. We must build the homes that our community needs.
We need a common-sense, infrastructure first approach to housebuilding that addresses our local housing need. I'll always fight to get the right homes for my constituents including our young people and those on housing waiting lists, and ensure Southend and Leigh get the infrastructure investment too.
CHAMPION OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUNG PEOPLE
Everyone, from every background, should be entitled to high quality education, opening up future opportunities and enabling them to thrive.
From apprenticeships and further education opportunities, to a new fit for modern times National Curriculum, and a truly inclusive and effective SEND system for all, I'm hugely passionate about improving the lives of young people and getting their voices into the heart of policy.

BACK OUR BUSES AND TRAINS
Connecting Southend with Leigh, and Leigh with Southend, is vital for so many people.
I'm so pleased that investment from the Government and the work of the Labour-led Council has seen three new and extended bus services across our constituency - with more on the way!
I'm also backing Great British Railways as it brings all operators into public hands, with c2c and Greater Anglian already moved over.
INVEST IN LOCAL JOBS
When local businesses do well, we all do well. As someone who ran my own business, I know what's needed to unlock opportunity and harness local talent.
As a Labour Business Champion, I have taken the voices of local businesses directly to the Government to ensure that we truly back the hard-working local people here in Southend West and Leigh. There's so much more to be done, from investment to apprenticeships, and I look forward to continuing this work.

RESTORING PRIDE IN OUR STREETS
We all know somewhere with fly-tipping or potholes that we'd rather avoid. I want to fix that.
Working with the Police and the Council, I'm launching "We Love Westcliff" to tackle fly-tipping and regenerate the street scene across the constituency, as well as improving civic pride in the area.
With £1.6 billion in Government investment across the country and more local investment from the Labour led council here in Southend to tackle potholes too, we'll soon be driving on safer roads across Southend and Leigh.
CLEAN UP THE SEWAGE CRISIS
Sewage has been allowed to spill into our waters and estuaries for too long. I want this scandal eradicated.
Alongside holding regular water summits with my colleague, Bayo Alaba MP, I'm also having regular meetings with Anglian Water to encourage them to clean up their act.
I've also voted in Parliament to empower the Environment Agency to apply stricter fines and financial penalties to water companies and hold them to account.

“I am passionate about making a difference for people's lives and I promise to fight for the residents of Southend & Leigh, ensuring they have the opportunities to access the services and support they need to live a healthier, happier and fairer life.”
