What is Opportunity Southend?
Southend secured fame as a seaside destination after a visit from the then Princess of Wales (wife of the future King George IV) in the early 19th Century shunted it into fame. From then Southend saw new infrastructure, including rail connections to London and Southend Pier, as more and more flocked to admire its beaches and local economy. However, since the 1960s, new infrastructure and investment has been lacking and vastly outpaced by a growing population and increased demand on services. Opportunity Southend seeks to bring the City up to date and ready for the 21st Century world we live in.
