August Roundup!

Every month, I'm out and about across Southend West and Leigh as well as working hard in Westminster as your voice in Parliament.

As well as voting on new legislation to improve people's lives here at home and across the country, I'm also meeting brilliant local people and championing local voices.

Here's what I got up to recently!

My August Roundup!

As always, August was a very busy month with work in both Westminster and Southend West & Leigh. Here are SIX highlights of this month's work!

Garon Going Strong!

1

The Garon Park Summer Community Event was fantastic, and I'm not ashamed to say I loved getting stuck in! As well as scaling IndiRock's climbing frame and meeting the animals of Gemma's Farm, I also spoke to a large number of local community groups about the crucial work they do.

Loving Leigh Link

August has also seen the launch of the new Leigh Link line, served by the 23A and 23B, which connects Leigh Railway Station with Southend Airport and the business park. It was great to join the Mayor, Councillors, Stephensons Bus, and residents for the 23A's maiden journey - a very comfy one too!

Summer's Big Launches

I launched two major campaigns this summer, both of which kicked off with roundtables with local residents. The #LookingOut4Leaseholders campaign and See Every Need campaign both look to take your voices here in Southend and Leigh and embed them into the policy process in Westminster. Both roundtables were fantastic with really valuable contributions - watch this space and my News and Updates page for more info!

Cockling Continues!

4

I know how anxious many of our local cocklers in Old Leigh had been about cockling licenses recently, and so I've been working closely with the Government and others to get new seven-year cockling licenses issued. A full season can now go ahead!

5

Fighting for Constituents

I want constituents to know that the difficulties they have faced recently with Royal Mail has been unacceptable. In actioning this, I requested and secured urgent meetings with national and regional Royal Mail staff and visited the local depot where I shared specific concerns and received assurances that the situation is now under control. Please reach out if you encounter any further problems.

6

Casework Wins

In August, my team and I helped constituents with over 820 new cases and answered more than 1,550 emails. Particular highlights included helping constituents facing difficulty abroad, providing advice and support to Ukrainian nationals living here in Southend West and Leigh, and securing vital migraine treatment after initial delays for a concerned resident.
