May Roundup!

Every month, I'm out and about across Southend West and Leigh as well as working hard in Westminster as your voice in Parliament.

As well as voting on new legislation to improve people's lives here at home and across the country, I'm also meeting brilliant local people and championing local voices.

Here's what I got up to in May 2025!

My May Roundup!

As always, May was a very busy month with work in both Westminster and Southend West & Leigh. Here are SIX highlights of this month's work!

Buoyed by Breakfast!

1

I was so excited to be a part of the newly opened breakfast club at Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School - which is already a huge hit with families and the children too. I donned my gloves and handed out some breakfasts to make sure the children went to class with full bellies and inquiring minds!

Cutting-Edge Treatment

The opening of the new Radiography Unit at Southend Hospital marks an important and huge step in improving cancer care. I was thrilled to welcome those attending the opening of the radiotherapy building and find out more about the high-tech LINAC machine which will be used for better and more effective treatment - I'm even more excited the Government have now secured funding for a second one!

3

For the Love of Dogs!

Anyone that knows me knows how much I love dogs - especially my crazy dalmatian Lotti! That's why it will come as no surprise to anyone that being able to award the prizes at the Dog Show in Belfairs Woods this month! I was even given the responsibility of judging two categories, including 'Best in Show'! Trust me the hardest thing ever is to judge children and dogs! They are all winners!

A Great Time in the Old Town

4

A particular highlight of my month was the Old Leigh Shanty Festival, which I visited on 18 May. A great weekend of music spread over 7 stages which really brought the Old Town to life. Thank you also to the organisers and Leigh on Sea Lions Club for supporting the event.

5

A Brisk Sunday Stroll!

It was great to join the Leigh On Sea Rotary Club for their Charity Pier Walk for Southend Hospital Charitable Foundation on the slightly chilly and very cloudy morning of Sunday 18 May! Nothing like a 2 2/3 mile brisk walk on a Sunday morning to get the blood pumping!

6

Casework Wins

In May, my team and I helped constituents with over 680 new cases and answered more than 1,150 emails. Particular highlights included guiding parents and children towards SEND support and advice, successfully helping to remove fines incorrectly imposed on a number of residents, and assisting older constituents with accessing social care support.
