March Roundup!
Every month, I'm out and about across Southend West and Leigh as well as working hard in Westminster as your voice in Parliament.
As well as voting on new legislation to improve people's lives here at home and across the country, I'm also meeting brilliant local people and championing local voices.
Here's what I got up to in March 2025!
My March Roundup!
As always, March was a very busy month with work in both Westminster and Southend West & Leigh. Here are SIX highlights of this month's work!
Slava Ukraini
1
Last month, I visited Ukraine and saw first-hand the bravery and stoicism of the Ukrainian people. We have to be resolute in our support for Ukraine's people as they continue to stand against Putin's illegal invasion. This month, it was my honour to raise their stories with the Prime Minister in the Commons chamber.

Honouring Sir David
I was proud to speak at the unveiling of the new display boards at Chalkwell Lifeguard Station, which I had commissioned together with Lady Amess, to honour the service and legacy of Sir David Amess MP. These boards are now in place and ready for Southend's City Day.

Changing the Law
One of the most important parts of my parliamentary role is as part of the Women & Equalities Select Committee. In our January report, we recommended after investigation and research that a period of paid leave should be available to all women and partners who experience a pre-24-week pregnancy loss. I'm delighted that the Government have agreed with this recommendation and the law will be changed - and therefore improved!
Backing Business
4
In my new role as a Labour Party Business Champion, I convened and hosted a round-table in Parliament with leading figures from the mortgage industry. It's crucial that we work hand in hand with businesses, and I look forward to my next meeting on supporting small businesses.
5
Emergency Service Support
We're very fortunate to have a hospital here in Southend, but it's crucial that patients get the care and support they need. As well as meeting with the CEO of the East of England Ambulance Service this month, I was delighted to see Southend Hospital's new Emergency Department progressing further.

Casework Wins
In March, my team and I helped constituents with over 620 new cases and answered more than 1,160 emails. Particular highlights included assisting parents and children with SEND support and school admissions, successfully liaising with local emergency services to ensure constituents get support, and working with concerned residents on local road safety.
